About
Mission, vision and background of the Association.
Pakistan Anthropological Association serves as the national professional body dedicated to advancing the study and practice of anthropology throughout the country. Building on a rich intellectual heritage, the Association seeks to consolidate and celebrate more than five decades of anthropological scholarship since the discipline's formal establishment at Quaid-i-Azam University in 1975. Its mission is to strengthen the discipline through annual conferences, collaborative research, professional development, and ethical fieldwork standards, alongside the publication of a peer-reviewed national journal. The Association also aims to broaden anthropology's scope beyond its conventional focus to address pressing contemporary issues, including urbanization, digital cultures, migration, climate change, public health, and religious pluralism. By creating platforms for emerging scholars and fostering interdisciplinary and international partnerships, it endeavors to enhance the visibility and influence of anthropology in national policy and development. Ultimately, the Association is committed to empowering Pakistani anthropologists to better understand and respond to the challenges facing the country and its society.
